Before the crash, Jonathan was excited about a family cruise and had a
happy 10-minute phone chat with Lane as he boarded the aircraft. Jonathan had put a lot of effort into flying bigger aircraft because he had always wanted to be a pilot.
His uncle, who described Jonathan as a “good kid” who had done well in life, was both saddened and proud.
Three crew members were in the helicopter and 64 passengers and four crew members
were on the American Airlines flight when the crash happened close to Washington, D.C. The incident is being looked into by the National Transportation Safety Board.
Washington, D.C. – A tragic incident on January 29 claimed the lives of 67 individuals, including American Airlines pilot Jonathan Campos, who perished in a collision between flight 5342 and a U.S. military helicopter near Washington, D.C.
Jonathan’s uncle, John Lane, recalled a warm memory of his nephew just hours before the crash. Lane shared that Jonathan was excited about an upcoming family cruise and had a cheerful 10-minute phone conversation with him while boarding the aircraft.
“He was a good kid, always striving to do better,” Lane said through tears. “He worked so hard to get to where he was. He always dreamed of becoming a pilot.”
